Later on Wednesday we moved to an area south of the bridge, just before
reaching the Schoolroom. After setting out packs down away from the
ice, Angela and I were nearly hit be a spindrift avalanche coming of the
cliffs on the east side of the gorge. As we jumped away, Angela's leg
punched through the thick ice crust covering the river. Fortunately
the water level was low and she didn't get her feet wet, but the ice left
bruises from her calf all the way up her thigh! This photo shows a
smaller amount of snow that came down the same gully later on.
