While the scenery in the Playground isn't that much different than the rest
of the Harney Peak area, the fact that it was all new to us made it quite
interesting. There are innumerable spires in this area! While
many of these have been climbed in the past, there is very little written of
the routes and/or difficulty of the lines. As an outsider hiking into
this area for the first time, identifying the features from what little
information we did have was nearly impossible. The peaks in this photo
seemed to be the high point of the area, which would mean one of them is
called "Sultan's Tower". But which one is it? There may be only
one way to find out--return to the area with some climbing gear and do some
vertical exploration!
