A Rainy Day Hike
Monday we woke to gray skies and light rain. The forecast hadn't been too optimistic, so we weren't all that surprised. Even if it hadn't been raining, I'm not sure we would have been in the mood for climbing since our very dear friend Rita had been badly injured the day before by rockfall while she had been climbing with her friend Helena and guide Curt. While we had noticed a helicopter landing the day before and assumed there must have been some kind of accident, we didn't find out until late in the afternoon what had happened and who had been involved. Needless to say, the somber mood around the Lodge Sunday evening was a stark contrast to the party atmosphere just the day before.
While Monday morning's gloomy skies seemed fitting to our mood, we decided to make the most of the day and go for a nice long hike.
