The beginning was indeed quite difficult. Anyone that's familiar with
my chubby, stubby, north-German fingers knows that I have a distinct
disadvantage on what others fondly refer to as "finger cracks"! And of
course, the popularity of this pitch assures that the first few holds are
considerably greased up with excess chalk. I slipped off a couple of
times on the first moves before figuring out what would work for me.
