The beginning of our second day on the trail. To begin the day we were
headed up to "The Notch" which is the obvious pass just left of center.
Since we had descended off the main trail to get to our campsite the night
before, we were looking at a 1500 foot climb up to The Notch--the biggest
obstacle on the route. According to the park wardens, this part of the
trail was "extreme". We weren't sure exactly what they meant by that,
but we were going to find out one way or another.
