Pausing just below Amber Mountain. Soon the trail started to descent
into the valley on the right before skirting all the way around Mt Tekarra
and Signal Mountain (which is hidden behind Tekarra). Just as we
started descending from this exposed ridge, the rain finally caught up with
us. It continued to rain off and on for the remainder of the trail
forcing us to put our cameras away, so this is the last image we shot.
After the amazing views from the Skyline, the rest of the trail was a bit
anticlimactic. The last five miles of the trail was unusually cruel,
pounding down 3000 vertical feet on an old fire road from Signal Mountain
through dense vegetation. By the end I was really starting to feel all
the miles as my shins became increasingly sore with each step. For a
while it seemed the only thing that kept us going was the thought of having
a nice cool beer at the local brewpub in Jasper--and that's exactly where we
headed when we did make it back to the car.
